New Indoor Wood Burning Requirements Start September 15

Starting September 15, Metro Vancouver residents who would like to operate an indoor wood burning appliance, such as a fireplace or wood stove, must submit a declaration of compliance with best burning practices.

Residents living within Metro Vancouver’s Urban Containment Boundary will also be required to register their indoor wood-burning appliances.

Residents can register their appliance and declare use of best burning practices through the Online Declaration and Registration system.

Metro Vancouver’s Residential Indoor Wood Burning Emission Regulation Bylaw 1303 aims to reduce wood smoke emissions from residential indoor wood burning appliances. Wood smoke contains air contaminants that are associated with respiratory and cardiac issues. More information can be found on Metro Vancouver’s residential indoor wood burning website.
