Collaborative Projects at təmtəmíxʷtən/Belcarra Regional Park
(Culturally important plants, like the Western redcedar, will be studied in Tsleil-Waututh Nation’s Cultural Heritage Study at təmtəmíxʷtən/Belcarra Regional Park)

The collaborative management of təmtəmíxʷtən/Belcarra Regional Park by Tsleil-Waututh Nation and Metro Vancouver has created opportunities to integrate Indigenous knowledge with contemporary regional park management.

The Guardian Program, which fosters strong relationships between Nation members and Regional Parks staff, is back for a second year and includes specialized training on cultural awareness, river restoration, design and implementation of wildlife camera trap projects, and more. This program focuses on sharing knowledge and expertise, and acts as a model of collaboration for other governmental organizations.

Tsleil-Waututh Nation is currently leading a Cultural Heritage Study funded by Metro Vancouver to better understand the depth of their history in the area. Learnings will be integrated into future planning and cultural visibility projects in the park.
