Metro Vancouver Regional Parks provides residents with places to be safe outdoors and enjoy the health benefits of nature, despite challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic and extreme weather events in 2021.
Regional parks saw almost 16.3 million visitors connect with important protected natural areas — a 37—per-cent increase from 2019. Visitation records were set at nine regional parks and greenways.
Parks programs were delivered in innovative ways, and 23,670 people took part in 822 programs, events, and outreach activities. Close to 3,800 volunteers and park partners contributed 11,606 hours to stewardship, education, and interpretive programs.
As part of Metro Vancouver’s mandate to protect natural areas, nearly 76 hectares of parkland were added to the system in 2021.
