Planning Begins for New Public Areas at təmtəmíxʷtən/Belcarra Regional Park
At təmtəmíxʷtən/Belcarra Regional Park, planning is underway to open the south picnic area to the public, increasing access to the area’s beaches and waterfront while improving ecological function.

Metro Vancouver’s Board approved the design concept for this area in 2017, changing it from restricted access residential use to non-residential public use.

The design concept includes adding three kilometres of trail to the existing trail network, removing invasive species and ecological restoration, providing beach access, and restoring historic cabins as landscape displays and the Bole House for public use.

Design development will be undertaken with Tsleil-Waututh First Nation as part of the Cultural Planning and Cooperation Agreement. Preparation of tender drawings, permitting, and archaeology are scheduled for 2022 with construction planned for 2023 and 2024.
