Sixty-five metres below Burrard Inlet, a water supply project reached a milestone. After 13 months of digging, a tunnel boring machine finished excavating a 1.1-kilometre long tunnel. This new tunnel will replace a smaller one that carries drinking water from North Vancouver to North Burnaby. Three steel water mains will be installed inside the new tunnel and connected to the new valve chambers at each shaft site, and into the region’s drinking water system.
