Metro Vancouver has responded to the extreme flooding that impacted the region and many parts of the province last November by establishing a Metro Vancouver Flood Resiliency Task Force. The catastrophic impacts of the recent flooding require urgent action and collaboration by all levels of government to make Metro Vancouver and our neighbouring region better prepared and more resilient to future flood events.
The task force will provide advice and recommendations to the Metro Vancouver Board and to the Board members appointed to the Fraser Basin Council’s Leadership Committee of the Lower Mainland Flood Management Strategy on issues related to flood resiliency.
The task force will also consider options for Metro Vancouver to coordinate and collaborate with our member jurisdictions, First Nations, Fraser Valley Regional District, provincial government, and federal government on plans, priorities, and funding to enhance flood resiliency.
