Operations staff at Metro Vancouver’s Lulu Island Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) have won a 2021 Water Environment Federation Operator Ingenuity Award.
These awards recognize and celebrate water and wastewater operators for ingenious fixes to enhance their facilities to protect public health and the local environment. Lulu Island plant staff were recognized for the plant’s backup dechlorination dosing system, which helps protect aquatic life from the toxic effects of residual chlorine and doesn’t need an electrical power source to operate.
Similar systems have also been installed at Annacis Island WWTP and Lions Gate WWTP.
