Ground Broken for Douglas Road Water Main’s Still Creek Tunnel Section

Work has officially started on the construction of the replacement Douglas Road Water Main in the Still Creek neighbourhood of Burnaby. The Still Creek Section is the final phase of the project. When complete, it will ensure the continued delivery of clean, safe drinking water to the cities of Burnaby and New Westminster well into the future.

Construction on the Still Creek Microtunnel Section began in late October, when the contractor broke ground for the tunneling entry shaft at Douglas Road and Norland Avenue. They reached another milestone in early November after breaking ground on the first exit shaft at Douglas Road and Roy Street. Work on this section will continue into early 2023.

Metro Vancouver is committed to working closely with the community and the city to ensure concerns and interests are considered as the project continues.
