The Metro Vancouver Board approved the 2022 annual operating budget on October 29, allocating the funds necessary to continue building, maintaining and upgrading the infrastructure that is a foundation of strength for the region. Metro Vancouver infrastructure must have the resiliency and capacity to serve our growing population of 2.7 million residents and meet federal and provincial regulations focusing on environmental quality.
The operating budget of $1.017 billion and $1.38 billion in capital expenditures for 2022 will address key Board priorities including implementing the Clean Air Plan; integrating land use and transportation planning; accelerated investment in affordable housing; accelerated action on regional economic prosperity; advancing long-term water source supply capacity while improving seismic resiliency of the water system; and more.
The Board also endorsed the Five-Year Financial Plan (2022-2026) which is indicative of future annual budgets and long-term financial plans.
The average household impact for 2022 is $595 for all regional services, including drinking water and management of liquid and solid waste — a $21 increase over the year prior, but $17 less than what was previously projected.
