Metro Vancouver is updating its Solid Waste Management Plan, building on the strengths of the current plan, and identifying opportunities for accelerated waste reduction and recycling, while reducing greenhouse gases and promoting a circular economy.
To deliver a robust engagement that goes beyond Metro Vancouver’s typical process, exceeds provincial requirements and addresses previous concerns about engagement, a pre-engagement phase was open from April 27 to May 28 to help shape the engagement process. Indigenous pre-engagement extended to July 2.
What we heard:
Feedback was gathered from more than 350 people. Respondents said they would like continuous opportunities to provide feedback online and in person, such as through engagement events. Transparency on how the input is used, sector-specific discussions, and a fair and collaborative engagement process were also top of mind.
Metro Vancouver will use the feedback to help shape the Solid Waste Management Plan update engagement program.
