Metro Vancouver has signed the Builders Code Pledge to support safer working conditions in construction.

The Builders Code Pledge is an initiative of the B.C. Construction Association, supported by government and industry, to help ensure equitable working conditions in construction and create an environment that provides equal and safe treatment of all employees.

The Builders Code is a standard of conduct for workers on construction sites throughout the province.  The intent of the Builders Code Pledge project is to reduce instances of discrimination, hazing, bullying and harassment across the sector, and to improve the recruitment and retention of skilled tradespeople.

Metro Vancouver signed the pledge on June 19, demonstrating its commitment to ensuring that these standards are in place not just for staff, but for all workers who support Metro Vancouver work sites.  All contractors will be expected to abide by this pledge in addition to Metro Vancouver policies.

Copies of the signed pledge will be distributed and posted throughout Metro Vancouver work sites.
