This massive tunnel boring machine cutter head is being lowered down a shaft 60m deep in preparation for tunneling across the Burrard Inlet, east of the Second Narrows Bridge. The tunnel will be 1.1km long and 6.5m wide and will ensure the reliable delivery of drinking water in the event of a major earthquake as well as increase the capacity of the existing system.
