Metro Vancouver is constructing a new water main in the City of Surrey to meet the growing demand for drinking water in communities south of the Fraser.
Construction of this new Kennedy Newton water main began in November and will be phased over several years, due to the length of the water main, which is approximately nine kilometres long. The project, scheduled to be completed in 2024, will increase capacity to meet current and future demands.
Construction activities include trench excavation, installing a 1.8 metre diameter pipe and new underground valve chambers and related tie-in work. The first section will run from 84th Avenue to 72nd Avenue, along 122 and 122A Streets. Construction of the second and third phases are expected to commence in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
The water main project is being coordinated with the City of Surrey in order to minimize construction impacts on the community.
